Christchurch views and awesome rocks

At the top of the Christchurch gondola

On my last day in Christchurch, I decided to go out of the city on a little bus adventure out to the coast. I went up on the gondola overlooking the sprawled out city and coastline. I've had the most amazing weather, and the views from the top and lookout were great.

And then, following the recommendation of a certain Mr Ben, I headed over to the sleepy beach town of Sumner to check out Cave Rock. Yes. Nothing excites a geographer more than an exciting rock! With an suitably apt name, the inside is carved out into a huge cave, with lots of other weathering and erosion around it creating little arches and caves. I hesitated to explore the inside after spotting the 'caution quicksand' signs. You can climb up to the top to check out a memorial and sweeping views of the beach. After getting my rock fix (thanks Ben!) I had lunch at a cute deli called Tart and hopped on the bus back to the city to catch my plane home.
