Summerwine

So Summerwine has come and gone… and I survived my first NZ camping experience! After a rather freezing time camping in the UK in July, I invested in a wonderful down sleeping bag that is now my best friend and helped those few hours of sleep we got! We headed up to Waikenae on Wednesday 18th to meet with other leaders and have a time together, followed by a day of setting up camp. The keynote speakers for the weekend were Nick & Lois Cuthbert from Birmingham, and Mike Pilavachi from Soul Survivor, who also brought 5 interns to help in the Kidszones, so it was quiet a pommie weekend!
I spent many many hours in the Kidszone wearing a rather awful blue “Kidszone Servant” t-shirt, preparing and leading a group of 14 8-9year old girls. They were all fantastic and enthusiastic girls, and we spent the weekend looking at the theme of Superheroes, making capes and finding out why Jesus is our greatest Hero. The highlight was probably the joint camp celebration at the end when the kids went up the front and did their favourite “Be Happy” song – they rocked! Lots of jumping, spinning, clapping and floor banging!
A bunch of us camped out at the end of the playing field, and our girlie tent with Sarah and Sarah was a great place to be. We drove back down to Wellington on Tuesday morning, completely exhausted and needing to catch up on a lot of sleep!
