I have to admit that I have woken up several times this week thinking that the house was going to blow down from the winds, but it has proven me wrong and is still standing! Saying that, logic should tell me that as I have yet to see a Wellington house collapse, maybe I should give their builders more credit!
My week has been a bit random, so here are the highlights (and lowlights!)
Friends
- I had a great time last night with a bunch of friends from church playing Risk, the invasion boardgame that has you on a mission to take over the world and destroy armies... it was fab! As a child, this game was banned in our house after one too many famliy arguments ("you can't invade me!") and so it was fun to have another go 15 years later.... and Sarah & I won! I have meet so many people here who are looking out for me... I feel loved!
- Meeting up with James Allaway, a friend from the UK who is moving over to Wellington in January - he's just over for a bit of training and to suss the place out, and it was great to see a familiar face!
- Having some awesome emails from so many people, and amazing chats to friends on the phone...
Work
A great meeting planning some christmas bbqs in neighbouring Kilbirnie working with a couple of other churches - I am designing the flyers and working on updating our christmas webpage (well, attempting to!)
Signing my contract with All Saints
I had fun leading at the Supakidz lunchclub programme in Hataitai School
Meeting Annette, the archdeacon for children's ministry in Wellington - she's the same age as me and we got on really well.
Other
- Burning 24 cupcakes
- Waking up between 4-5.30am everyday to let the cat out... don't ask.
- Setting fire to a potato... and yes, potatoes to produce flames.
- Discovering an amazing art & craft shop called kiwiscraps... I am so excited! They have amazing workshops and a free studio too... hoorah!! :o)
- Trying to sort out setting up a bank account/tax number, and looking for a place to live... slightly stressful, but things will fall into place, I am sure.
All in all, things are pretty good here on this side of the world... just a bit gusty.

Hi Diana
The houses in Wellington are made out of wood for three reasons:
* Cheap building material
* Bends in earthquakes
* Bends in the wind!
Could you send me your email and postal address? james.durbin@tiscali.co.uk
God Bless
