I've had a fantastic weekend and am feeling a lot more settled in Wellington. Yesterday I went along to a BBQ in the evening at some friends in Kilbirnie, and we walked up the track above Hataitai to the top of Mout Victoria to get a great view of Wellington Harbour. At 9pm, loads of fireworks were set off from a barge in the harbour, and we enjoyed the amazing display perched on the side of the hill! It was so much fun! Much to our concern (and excitement, it has to be added) a fire broke out at that top of Mt Vic after some local fireworks went wrong, and it was quite a blaze before the firemen could make their way up to the top. We were sat a bit further along from the summit, so ended up watching more of the inpromptu fire than the fireworks! (Friends kept pointing out it was obvsiouly just a volcano erupting, and I should be impressed)Then this afternoon (Sunday) we went for a long walk at Red Rocks coastal reserve, just 10minutes drive from Hataitai. The aim was to see the seal colony, but it must have been too windy and rough for them, as they were no where to be seen... :o( It was a great walk though, and after stopping to have some late lunch at a beachfront cafe, I am back home and feeling quite exhausted! Lots of walking the last couple of days, so I will have thighs of steel.
